It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Jean Almond of Ste. Anne des Plaines, Quebec, in her 82nd year. Carol passed away peacefully at the Soins Palliatifs, Blainville, Quebec on June 19, 2025 with adoring husband Peter by her side.
Her final days were spent in the comforting presence of family and friends whose lives she had touched. Special thanks to niece Carolyn Price and nephew Christopher Almond for providing gentle care and companionship throughout her short illness and to longtime friend Louise Dufour who was a steadfast support to the family.
Carol was predeceased by her parents Helen Pearl Sweetman and Edwin Arthur Sweetman and her sisters Joyce (Norman), Lois (Howard) and by her brothers Lennox (Vina) and Keith (Blandine) and brothers-in-law Lorne and George, and sister-in-law Elaine Almond (Roy).
Carol is survived by Peter, who will deeply miss the love of his life after 56 years, 8 months, and 7 days of mutual devotion. She is also survived by her siblings Irene, Shirley, Walter (Myrna), and Winston (Graciette) who will remember their sister for her kind and gentle soul. Her memory will also be cherished by her cousins, especially by Margaret Ann (Sweetman) Mauger who shared a relationship with Carol that was as close as twins. She was a treasured aunt to many nieces and nephews who will miss her ready giggle and sense of fun. Her goddaughter Tricia deeply values their lifelong connection. Her many friends are grateful for Carol’s enduring loyalty and kindness.
Carol worked tirelessly on behalf of the unhoused in Montreal. Along with Peter and a dedicated group of friends, she created the organization Community Outreach. She was honoured for these efforts with the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec’s Seniors Medal (silver). For many winters, she and Peter could be found sharing warm food and kind words on the city’s streets.
Carol also served on the board of the United Church Women’s Association for Ste. Therese.
Carol enjoyed knitting and camping. She and Peter spent many happy summers at Fish Creek and Rollins Pond, NY, in their earlier years. After Peter’s retirement, they returned each year to Carol’s happiest place on earth — her childhood home in Port Daniel where she loved spending time with brother Winston and friends sharing a cup of King Cole tea. While there, she used her cooking and baking skills to plan celebrations that brought people together and fostered fellowship.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of Soins Palliatifs in Blainville who ensured Carol’s comfort with excellent care in a warm, home-like setting.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Carol’s memory to an organization supporting the unhoused, to Saint Jerome Hospital, amiquebec.org, or a Palliative Care Facility of your choice.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held in August. A graveside service will also be held at a later date in her beloved Port Daniel.
